Jason Grunwald’s works vary in mediums from silkscreen rock posters to detailed oil paintings to raw sculptures. Jason’s paintings bring new light and energy to the Hyperrealism style.  His limited edition silkscreen posters are reminiscent of the intensity and detail of an Albrecht Durer print with a contemporary rock twist.  He has collaborated with many bands including Lee Scratch Perry, The Fall, The Coachwhips, The Ohsees, Grizzly Bear, Big A little a, The Slits, Devendra Banhart, and Sonic Youth (to name a few).

Jason’s most recent paintings series titled, “If You’ll Listen I’ll Tell You Everything”, are meticulously detailed representations of his studio walls, which are covered in hundreds of drawings, photos and magazine clippings.  Using trompe-l’oeil, illusion, and photorealism, he is able to create incredibly hyper-realistic architectural spaces within his paintings.  Each reinterpreted image that he paints onto the canvas builds upon the next in order to form a complex narrative illustrating the very specific Grunwald energy and style that is evident in all of his pieces.  In addition to these paintings, we will also be exhibiting much of the original artwork that he drew inspiration from.

Jason’s sculptures are constructed from a vast array of recycled materials including broken instruments, cinderblocks and amplifiers all found on the streets of New York City.  His monumental sculptures are often figurative in scale, but manifest as a visual representation of the perfect musical riff.
